Schaefer-Weaton recognized with first advocacy award
The Iowa Association of Business and Industry has awarded its inaugural Advocacy in Action award to Lori Schaefer-Weaton for her work to advance ABI’s public policy agenda.
Shaefer-Weaton is president of Agri-Industrial Plastics in Fairfield and serves on the ABI Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
The Advocacy in Action award was created to recognize ABI members’ commitments to ABI advocacy efforts. Schaefer-Weaton was recognized for her dedication to advancing ABI’s agenda by mobilizing grassroots participation, taking part in ABI’s annual Legislative Reception and Day on the Hill events, and regularly contributing to ABI’s Iowa Industry PAC at the platinum level.
“Schaefer-Weaton has shown an ongoing commitment to raising awareness of ABI’s public policy efforts,” ABI Chairman Mark Hanawalt said. “Like me, she wears her ABI membership proudly, and is the first to volunteer for everything from lobbying lawmakers and inviting them into her facility to speaking engagements and video testimonials. Schaefer-Weaton knows the true meaning of ‘Engage ABI.’”
Schaefer-Weaton is also an outspoken advocate and business leader for Elevate Advanced Manufacturing, a campaign to break the negative misperceptions about manufacturers and educate students about the careers available at Iowa’s manufacturing companies.
The Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) has been the voice of Iowa business since 1903, and its mission is to collectively provide a strong, unified voice to business and industry on issues impacting Iowa employers. ABI is currently comprised of 1,400 Iowa members of all types and sizes in all 99 counties employing more than 300,000 Iowans.
